The district Bautzen (Sorbian Wokrjes Budyšin) in East-Saxony is the largest area in the district of the Free State with Bautzen, Bischofswerda, Kamenz, Hoyerswerda and Radeberg as major district towns. In the north it borders on Brandenburg, in the east onto the district Görlitz, in the south onto the Czech Republic as well as onto the district Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge. The western neighbours are the state capitals Dresden and the district Meißen. The district is a member of the Euroregion Neiße.
