God created the Lausitz and the devil buried the coal in it.

The Mining Museum is situated next to the gates of the city Hoyerswerda, in the briquette factory Knappenrode, which started its business in 1918 and closed down in 1993.
The visitor experiences in an impressive way a piece of industrial and mining history inside the red brick building and at the expansive open-air site.
Many exhibits as for example three giant steam turbines testify the prowess of German technicians and engineers.
Well worth seeing is also Europe's largest furnace exhibition and the mineralogical collection.
Apart from the impressive technique the exhibition also gives insight into the everyday life of of the people in the mining region.
