Lessingmuseum in Kamenz (Sorbian Kamjenc = little place at the stone)
One of Saxony's most important cultural places is the in 1931 inaugurated Lessing House in Kamenz, which houses apart from the Lessing-Museum also the city bibliotheca with children's library.
Lessing (1729-1781) was one of the forerunners of German national literature. Works like «Nathan the Wise», «Emilia Galotti» and many fables were penned by him.
Apart from the permanent exhibition about life, work and effect of the poet has the house diverse museum-educational offers. A city tour through the historical old town gives insight into the Lebenswelt of the child Gotthold Ephraim Lessing in the 18th century. Stages are among others the Mother Church St. Marien in were Lessing's father preached and the Minster St. Annen were he went to the Ratslatein-school. Lessing days take place annually in January and February with several events and a writing contest. The Lessing House is situated at the Lessingplatz, next to the Volkspark. The museum's depot is housed in the Malzhaus at the Pulsnitzer Straße.
