The Silbermann Organ of Crostau

History of the Crostau Organ
Not a lot is known about the history of origin of the Crostau organ; a organ construction contract has not been found. Werner Müller ("Gottfried Silbermann - Persönlichkeit und Werk" DVfM Leipzig 1982) suspects that the Crostau work was built instead of an unrealised organ project for the church in Stolpen.

The dreamlike sonority of a Silbermann organ can be experienced at the Berg-Church in Crostau. Before you enter the church, soak up the view of the Oberlausitz Highlands, which is spread out before you.

The Silbermann-Organ of Crostau – a pearl of organ eine Perle der Orgelbaukunst

Gottfried Silbermann was one Europe's most important organ builders in the 18th century.

The village Frauenstein in the Erzgebirge was home to the famous master.

Of the forty-six organs thirty-one still exist today despite devastating wars.

In the 80s the former Local Museum in Frauenstein, the renaissance palace, was turned into a special "Gottfried-Silbermann-Museum". At the palace's foyer one can see documentation about Gottfried Silbermann’s life's work with the aid of large photos of all still existing organs.

The large number of originals – of great value  – that makes the work of Gottfried Silbermann accessible to the visitor, makes this museum so important.
